Leila’s Wonderful Water Birth

We have received this wonderful birth story from one of our lovely instructors Tracey Harper from Birthing Calmly. Thank you for allowing us to share it Leila and Tom and congratulations on the birth of your gorgeous little boy.

“Just wanted to let you know our lovely news! Out baby boy is finally here. Baby bean has no name yet as we can’t quite decide but hopefully will do soon.

I wanted to share our story with you so here goes……..

It began at 5am on the 28th Jan when I woke up to my waters breaking. I was 40+5 at this point so was very excited when this happened as induction dates had already been discussed.

I was very calm about it all, listening to my music and pottering around the house to begin with. We were advised to go to the hospital seeing as my waters had broken before surges so we did and headed straight back home to start on all the things we had learnt and picked up from our lovely classes with Tracey. I wanted to stay at home for as long as we could anyway so this suited us!

Surges started around 11am and I managed a relaxing bath, listening to my calm birth affirmations and birth rehearsal. They quickly became stronger and closer together by Tom was so good at keeping me focused with my TCBS breathing techniques and massage!

I stayed upright and active throughout and by 4pm it had got to the point where we both knew it was time to go to the hospital. The car journey was hard but again Tom was there to remind me everything was fine and we would have  a baby soon! I knew we were close at this point but was still shocked when the midwife examined me and stated I was already 9cm dilated and ready to go!!

I just about managed to get into the birthing pool whilst Tom set up the candles and music before it was time to start bearing down.  Baby wasn’t waiting around and started making his appearance after some gad and air and a bit of a noise from me!

Unfortunately both baby and I struggled at the end so the midwives had to intervene by giving a little helping hand but after just over an hour he was here. He weighed a very healthy 10lb exactly, I couldn’t believe it!!

What I will say is the whole process from start to finish from the TCBS classes and practicing at home to the actual day was wonderful. I know for a fact it made me personally so much more calmer, focused and happier with choices both me and Tom made.

Thank you so much Tracey  for all your help and advice, we will recommend Birthing Calmly with The Calm Birth School to everyone we know.”
